Agalimmune Founded to Develop Cancer Immunotherapies

Will use funding to develop Alphaject technology

Agalimmune Ltd., a new biopharma company, has been founded by investment groups Loxbridge Research LLP and Animatrix Capital LLP to develop immunotherapeutics for the treatment of cancer, with a focus on solid tumors. Agalimmune, based in London and CA, will use funding to continue the translation of Agalimmune’s immunotherapeutic technology, Alphaject, licensed from the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS).

The Alphaject technology includes methods for treating solid tumors such that the immune system actively rejects them, much like a non-matched graft or transplant. The Alphaject compound is directly injected into the tumor, presenting a foreign antigen to the immune system. This technology aims to elicit a rejection of the tumor, allowing the immune system to destroy the tumor immediately and also provide long-lasting protection in the form of enhanced immune surveillance.

Mike Westby, chief executive officer of Agalimmune, said, “The development of immunomodulatory therapies is an exciting and rapidly emerging field, which hopefully will lead to improved anti-cancer treatments for patients. We welcome Loxbridge Research and Animatrix Capital as investors.”
